Community grants

We aim to be a role model for others and undertake diverse projects that strengthen and support our local communities. In this way, we demonstrate that development that strengthens social infrastructure is development for the future.

Treatments

The Blue Lagoon Company has offered individualized psoriasis treatment recognized by Icelandic health authorities since 1994. The treatment takes place at the Blue Lagoon Medical Clinic in Svartsengi and is based on the unique properties of the geothermal seawater. The treatment is natural and the geothermal seawater is used sustainably with the goal of improving the quality of life of psoriasis patients free of charge and without state subsidies.

Research and development

From the very outset, the Blue Lagoon Company has placed an emphasis on dynamic research work, and the Blue Lagoon Research and Development Center in Svartsengi is working on a variety of projects. These include research into the lagoon's ecosystem, the effects of bathing in the lagoon on psoriasis, bioactivity studies of the ingredients in geothermal seawater, the development of sustainable production methods for bioactive ingredients, as well as the development and clinical testing of skin products for Blue Lagoon Skin Science.

Support for the local community

Through events and development projects, we actively participate in fostering unity and collective strength in our local communities. The Blue Lagoon Company financially supports carefully selected initiatives in the fields of safety, health, sports, culture and environmental protection.

Resource Park

The Blue Lagoon Company is part of the Reykjanes Geothermal Resource Park and operates within the UNESCO Reykjanes Global Geopark. The collaboration with the Resource Park is intended to promote the area as a destination, support the sustainable use of resources in harmony with nature, and increase knowledge, awareness, and protection of geological heritage in the area. In recent years, the Blue Lagoon Company has contributed to strengthening the project with the development of the Reykjanesviti Lighthouse and in 2024 we opened a visitor center by the lighthouse, with the aim of improving the services and information available to those traveling through the area.

2025 highlights

Although 2025 was challenging, the Blue Lagoon Company met all of its goals of having a lasting and positive impact on the local community and the environment through diverse and targeted actions.

As in previous years, we continued to prioritize business with domestic suppliers and partners, to support the local economy. In addition, we supported various community projects and in 2025 allocated ISK 150 million in grants to the community.

One of the highlights of the year was the renewal of the Blue Lagoon Company's contract with Iceland Design and Architecture for the next three years. This partnership highlights our commitment to supporting Icelandic design and creative industries.

The Blue Lagoon Company also supported the Icelandic Cancer Society by participating in the Pink Ribbon and Mottumars (Mustache March) campaigns, and has supported the Icelandic Cancer Society's Science Fund since 2015.

Another initiative worth mentioning is the Kerlingarfjöll Ultra trail race, which was held for the second time in the summer of 2025. Both the level of participation and satisfaction of the guests exceeded our wildest expectations, and it is a pleasure to be able to host an event that has such a positive impact on development in the region.

In addition, through our Medical Clinic in Svartsengi, we provided 1,304 psoriasis treatments to Icelandic patients free of charge and without state subsidies.
