The Retreat

2025 highlights.

Renovation and improvements

Following the seismic activity and uncertainty of recent years, the focus at The Retreat was on renewing and strengthening teams and processes over the past year. Seismic activity continued to affect the area, but the professional response of hotel staff to the two evacuations that took place during the year was exemplary.

Construction work this year included improvements to the side road and access to the hotel, as well as parking lots, and the opening of an enhanced treatment area at the Retreat Spa. Staff training focused on improving service and increasing knowledge of international luxury tourism, in addition to a cosmetology intern working at the Retreat Spa throughout the year.

The Retreat's sales team attended various events during the year, both domestically and internationally, and The Retreat's offerings were presented at luxury tourism trade shows in Central and South America, the United States, Africa, and the Middle East.

Moss

Moss Restaurant had a very impressive program last year, with events including a Chateau Figeac wine event with a masterclass in the wine cellar, dinners with the Dom Pérignon Society and Petrus, as well as Moss starting a collaboration with the Northern Icelandic Sturgeon company (Hið Norðlenzka Styrjufélag) and now offering champagne tastings with Icelandic caviar at the restaurant.

Offerings

A new and improved booking engine was launched, and accommodation at The Retreat was added to the Travia reseller website. A decision was also made to offer special rates to guests who book two nights or more under the A Quiet Getaway brand, which has exceeded expectations.

The range of services available to guests also increased during the year, with day visitors now able to book a full-day visit to the Retreat Spa and Lava Cove being added to the booking engine. In addition, BL+ facial treatments were added to the Retreat Spa's treatment offerings, and yoga and meditation classes were added to the hotel guest leisure offerings.

Awards and recognitions

The Retreat Hotel was awarded its first Michelin key this year, and Moss retained its Michelin star, which the restaurant has done every year since 2023. The Retreat Hotel won the World's Best Travel+Leisure Award and Moss won the Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence.
